Recording for ‘Blackbird in Infospace’ on the roof of the Worcester Art Gallery and at Movement.

Part of our Turning Point West Midlands residency in Worcester. We are recording a new set of songs inspired by the city using sounds recorded in different Worcester locations. They will be available from sculptural USB download points throughout the city.

The project launches on the 23rd May with a performance at Worcester Art Gallery and exhibition opening at Movement. More info here (PDF).

The second day of our installation at the Museum Collections Centre, Birmingham. See below (here) for images of the first day and more info. Thanks to Joe Welden for his assistance today.

Today we began installing our sculpture Trappenkamp at the Museum Collections Centre, Birmingham.

The piece is made from layers of water-jet cut ply. It takes the form of a structure that was influenced by shrines, lodges and ruins. This is the third version of the structure, which has been re-configured from the original piece commissioned by Tate Britain in 2008. It was subsequently shown at Croft Castle in the Meadow Arts exhibition Tell it to the Trees and is now on long term loan to the MCC Birmingham.

Yesterday installation began for our new sculpture at Highfields School, Wolverhampton. The piece is part of Project Dandelion, a large scale project commissioning art for new schools being built in the Wolverhampton area.

The sculpture depicts five crystal forms in laser-cut galvanised steel. Each of the crystals; Morganite, Forsterite, Lonsdaleite, Stolzite and Amethyst, are named after people who are leaders or specialists in various disciplines, representing the various areas of study within the school.

The exhibition is a totally open show that anyone can contribute towards at any point during the six week run. The exhibits were curated by the gallery staff and were constantly re-arranged as new work was added.

Around 260 artworks and objects were included in the exhibition, which is the third version of ‘I am the Warrior’ to date. (see version 1 and version 2)

The space is designed to display a wide range of art, craft and hobby work. It includes hand painted wallpaper created by the gallery staff.

The project is a totally open exhibition. Any creative activity that you can deliver to the space during the course of the show will be exhibited. The top images shows a selection of work from the first week of the show. Further information about how to take part is available on the John Hansard site.

Another work in progress from our current exhibition. This is a test drawing by our robot arm, made in collaboration with Ad Spiers. We have been working with Ad to give the arm its own drawing style and have spent some time drawing a variety of subjects with it to see what works best. We have settled on a series of post-apocalyptic mythical beasts. This is in keeping with the overall theme of the show. We have been drawing creature images - similar to a medieval bestiary - which the arm then interprets in it’s own way, courtesy of Ad’s software. We then paint onto the images the arm has drawn.
See Ad’s blog post from the exhibition opening featuring some images of the arm in action.
Project generously supported by the Pervasive Media Studio, Bristol.

Some images of works in progress from the last two months. These pieces are now on show in our current exhibition ‘The Infocalypse Stack’ at Ceri Hand Gallery, London.

The pieces in laser cut Oak veneer are part of wall hanging works based on large ritual necklaces. They were painted once cut. The perspex pieces were mounted on bases and form dioramas depicting scenes from a post apocalyptic world. The paintings make up a short looped animation.

The works were cut a Access Space, Sheffield, Black Country Atelier, Birmingham and Coventry University.

Images of the final show can bee seen here.

Images of our robot drawing arm, now fully operational and in it’s new chassis. See more info about the project below (here). The arm and the drawings we make with it will be part of our exhibition The Infocalypse Stack at Ceri Hand Gallery, London 22 February -  23 March 2013. More info about the show here.
