The completed instruments from our Refab Space residency.
The keyboard and guitar shaped instruments are usb midi controllers, using adapted circuit boards from Akai MPK mini’s. The drums use piezo contact mics to trigger samples.
They were built using Refab Space’s laser cutter in perspex, mdf and ply. Arcade buttons were wired to the key-contacts on the MPK minis and an arcade joystick was wired to four of the pads on the keyboard-shaped instrument. A foot pedal was wired to another of the pads. The guitar-shaped instrument uses a matrix key layout, with black buttons for the black piano keys.
The instruments will be used in our band Juneau Brothers.
